Holy Redeemer Parish offers preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) and Matrimony. For more information on Sacrament preparation for adults, please visit our Becoming Catholic page and our Sacraments page, or you may contact the parish office.
First Reconciliation & First Eucharist
Children ages seven and older are encouraged to prepare for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation & First Eucharist. Religious education for these sacraments are completed in either Holy Redeemer School or our Sunday School of Religion Program. Preparation for these sacraments spans over two years, starting in 1st grade. We encourage families to enroll their children in religious education through the School or School of Religion by 1st grade in order to properly prepare for these Sacraments, if not sooner.
Preparation for First Reconciliation begins every Fall and culminates with the children receiving the Sacrament in December. Preparation for First Eucharist begins every Spring and culminates with the children receiving the Sacrament in early May.
Confirmation
Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is open to all who are in 8th grade or above. Those who are to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation will need to have already received the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist. For adults interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, please refer to our Becoming Catholic page.
Confirmation Preparation for young adults who are in 8th grade or above begins every September and runs until late April or early May when the candidates receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation includes Sunday Mass participation, monthly Confirmation gatherings on Sunday evenings, a weekend retreat in March, selection of a Sponsor, and other small assignments. In addition, Confirmation candidates are required to be enrolled in School of Religion (SOR) or Holy Redeemer School, and at least one year of prior religious education is expected.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC)
Normally, children receive the Sacrament of Baptism before the age of 7, the Sacraments of First Reconciliation & First Eucharist in the 2nd grade, and the Sacrament of Confirmation in the 8th grade.
However, we are always happy to welcome children and youth into the Catholic Church through the Sacrament of Baptism, to the Saving Mercy of Christ through the Sacrament of First Reconciliation, to the Table of the Lord's Supper through the Sacrament of First Eucharist, and to the Fullness of Communion through the Sacrament of Confirmation. It just takes a little preparation & instruction that we are happy to provide!
Please contact the parish office if your child needs to get caught up on his or her Sacraments. It is our pleasure to help!
