ABOUT OUR FIRST RECONCILIATION & FIRST HOLY COMMUNION PREPARATION PROGRAM
Baptized Catholic children, ages seven and older, are encouraged to prepare for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion. Religious education for these sacraments is completed in either Holy Redeemer School or our Sunday School of Religion Program.
Preparation for these sacraments spans over two years, starting in 1st Grade. We encourage families to enroll their children in religious education through Holy Redeemer School or the School of Religion by 1st Grade in order to properly prepare for these Sacraments, if not sooner.
Preparation for First Reconciliation begins every Fall and culminates with the children receiving the Sacrament in December. Preparation for First Holy Communion begins every Spring and culminates with the children receiving the Sacrament in early May.
MASS & CLASS ATTENDANCE
Weekly attendance at Mass is required of all First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion candidates. This is extremely important for their sacramental preparation. If your child is not already in the habit of attending weekly Sunday Mass, this is the year to start!
Additionally, class attendance in Holy Redeemer School or the School of Religion is critical. If your child is not in attendance for the majority of classes & the Days of Reflection, he or she may not be able to receive the Sacrament.
COMMUNICATION
All announcements concerning the dates and times of classes will appear in the Sunday Parish Bulletin and will be e-mailed out to families who have enrolled. E-mails will regularly be sent to First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion families regarding important dates and information. Parents are strongly encouraged to read these e-mails as they contain important announcements such as possible cancellations or other reminders.
